Sample Costa Rica Itinerary This trip provides an experience of learning and adventure with components of science, the Spanish language, Latin American culture, and service. Note: Departure will be the night before day one or early morning of day one. (Meals: B=breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner) DAY 1 – Travel to San José Costa Rica & Monteverde Cloud Forest Arrive at San Jose early afternoon. (Sights to be determined by flight time arrival). Motor to Monteverde with multiple stops to view wildlife and countryside. Evening program – introduction to Costa Rica culture, land, and Spanish Language. Meals: L,D DAY 2 - Monteverde and Arenal Volcano Hike Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Visit Butterfly farm Visit Casem Artists Cooperative Motor to the Arenal area and view the Arenal Volcano. Weather permitting, boat across Lake Arenal. Visit Baldi Hot Springs for swimming and water slides. Night views of the volcano, weather permitting. Overnight near Arenal. Meals: B,L.D DAY 3 – Arenal and Cahuita National Park Visit Canopy Walk. Hike Arenal Lava Flows. Motor to Caribbean Coast. Visit a banana plantation. Visit port at Limon where Columbus landed. Arrive Cahuita National Park. Meals: B,L,D Note: Turtle breeding and nesting are seasonal and often unpredictable.  Observation of Sea Turtles or research on live Sea Turtles is NEVER guaranteed. DAY 4 – Cahuita National Park Cahuita: Introduction to snorkeling. Snorkling in the marine reserve. Follow-up session on marine experience. Travel to turtle research area – work with sea turtle researchers. Hike in rainforest of Cahuita National Park. Evening hike on beach Overnight at Cahuita. Meals: B,L,D DAY 5 –Cahuita, Braulio Carillo, San José Leave Cahuita for San José. En route, hike in Braulio Carillo National Park. Visit souvenir shops. Overnight in San José. Meals: B,L,D DAY 6 – White Water Rafting Travel to the Río Reventezón for a day of rafting. Return to San José Farewell dinner and celebration at “typical” Costa Rica restaurant. Meals: B, L, D Flight departure will be a night flight on Day 6 or an am flight on Day 7 with a hotel stay in San Jose. DAY 7 – DEPARTURE Return flight to US. Meal: B, depending on time of departure.
