Now that you have your
brochures, you need to make a compelling student introduction.
Introduce the trip during
class time if possible. Plan to make an upbeat speech. It should focus on the
things that students want out of the trip, including fun and adventure
with their classmates.
Here is a sample speech,
which you can personalize:
“I
have an important announcement. Next year I will be leading a group of students
on an exciting trip to one of the world’s most beautiful places, the Grand
Canyon. We will be learning a lot about science and history while having fun. I
have us signed up for a float down the Colorado River, hiking in the Grand
Canyon, climbing on a rock wall, and more. The best part about the trip is that
we will be learning in such an exciting way, and you will be able to form some
great friendships in the process.
For those of you that have been to the Grand Canyon before, you can tell your
classmates about how spectacular it is. And there is something on this trip for
everyone – fun, adventure and good times guaranteed for all.
Now I am going to pass out the information for you to bring home to your
parents. Bring this home to them tonight. It tells them everything about
the trip, including the price, and the registration form is included. Remember
to register early, as space may be limited, and I would not want you to be left
out. Please let your parents know that I have scheduled a parent night for
(choose your date) where they can come and learn more about the trip. I am
including my phone number on the registration letter. They can contact me with
questions, or call the company that we are using to organize the trip.
If
you have any questions, please talk to me after class. I look forward to seeing
many of you on this amazing trip!”
At this point, you need to
pass the registrations out to every student possible,
not just the ones you think may want to go on the trip. This will dramatically
affect your chances of getting a good group together.
